DESCRIPTION: The history of Peacoats is interesting, and had a strong influence on our Peacoat. Not surprisingly, the design is old enough that there is controversy over where it came from, and when. Some sources will claim origins back to the early 1700s. Some claim the word "pea" is a corruption of a Dutch word referring to a coarse wool. We'll definitely not be making anything coarse! A couple of well-accepted points are that the original Peacoat was wool, and oriented toward sailors. The double-breasted front supposedly enabled sailors to slide down or shinny up a mast without buttons being snagged. Maybe more reasonable, the true double-breast doubled chest protection from headwinds. It also enabled a sailor to button either left-over-right or right-over-left, perhaps depending upon which side the wind was coming from ... or just to hide some soiled fabric.

FIT GUIDE: Generous Fit~ Designed with additional room for layering and ease of movement.

SIZE CHART: PLEASE check the size charts and let's hope we can get it right the first time ... exchanges/returns are free but a chore for you and an extra cost for us.

FABRIC: 100% WeatherWool Certified Fine Wool in our FullWeight Jacquard Fabric

WeatherWool is always MADE IN USA 100%

FEATURES:

Hand-sewn Corozo Buttons with Anchoring Stay Buttons on the inside.
High collar with throat latch to secure the collar in the raised position
Black Corozo Buttons
Milspec water-resistant thread throughout

VERSATILITY: Our Peacoat leans more toward our Luxury side, but the same Hardcore Performance Fabric is the foundation. I was pleased and a little surprised that some of our Peacoats are at work on cattle ranches. As always, 100% USA, 100% WeatherWool Certified Fine Wool.

NEXT PRODUCTION RUN: Hoping to make more for shipment in October, 2027

In the video, Cody is wearing the previous version (in Drab Green) of the Peacoat, but the video is still valid except for the two extra buttons on front. Cody is 5'11"/189 cm, 175 lbs/79 kg, wearing a size Medium.

ANECDOTES: The photos from the tailor's studio show the first Peacoat made in this new style, in the Drab Green color, which is a better color than Black for development work, and for website photos. The Black Peacoats are the same as the drab green in the pictures. These Peacoats were manufactured by Ferrara of Long Island City, New York.
